I Stare At The Woman In Front Of Me

I stare at the person in front of me.

A woman.

She has dark eyes that turn brown when hit by a ray of sunlight.

She has a default small smirk on her lips as if she knows everyone’s secrets, even mine.

And maybe she actually does.

She opens her mouth and tells me stories.

Stories of her life. Stories of the people most important to her.

She tells me stories of her childhood and how she got the scar on her right arm due to a clumsiness and childhood curiosity.

She shows me her battle scars and her victories accompanied by a winning smile.

“Chin up and never let them look down at you,” she says.

She tells me all about her dreams which I suddenly have a strong urge to join her in.

She tells me she is slowly, but surely, taking leaps of faith to achieving a life she will not regret once her time is up.

With affection and love in her eyes, she tells me stories about her partner and how she is lucky to have found someone who pushes her in the right direction.

She tells me her vision for the world and how she wants to change the hearts and mindsets of people, even if it’s a long shot.

And all I do is listen, nod, and imagine all those things with her.

She is this powerful force that convinces people to follow their dreams and pursue their aspirations.

Maybe it’s in the way she talks—confident yet soft.

Or the way she looks at me straight in the eyes yet diverts at perfect times to avoid making me feel uncomfortable.

Or maybe it’s the way she shares her goals as if she actually wants me to be a part of.

“And I do.” she says, “This is your dream, too.”

It’s both empowering, terrifying, exciting, and overwhelming all at the same time.

It’s a mix of emotions that I would not mind feeling again because I know I am about to embark on the road to doing things that will change lives for the better.

I smile, she smiles back.

My sister asks why I’m smiling at the mirror again.

"2020 is shaping up to be the year of focus and curiosity. I’ve found that curiosity must go hand in hand with focus to achieve significant things. Otherwise we end up trying to pursue too many things, which in turns makes us dissatisfied. In this day and age, less is more." — @zairatan .

There are just things you should not feel guilty about. Cancelling plans is alright. Choosing to not go online for weeks is understandable. Saying "no" is okay. Taking some time out for yourself is not a luxury—it's a necessity. Please, take care of yourself. YOU are your biggest asset. YOU are your greatest investment 🌻

A 20/20 vision for 2020...

Have you checked up on your friends yet? No, you do not need to be physically with them always. Nor do you have the responsibility to contact them 24/7. But a simple message like this from time to time can make their (or anyone's tbh) day ✨

For the ones who are afraid to start:
I have been in that position. I was scared with the thought of turning on my laptop and start typing out the words.
I was scared with the thought of opening a book to read.
I was scared of getting ready to go out.
But do you know what scared me more?
I was scared that I was never going to reach my destination.
I was scared that I was going to be the reason for my own regrets.
So I started.
And I never stopped ever since ✨🌻

There is so much power in written words. If you are like me who can't perfectly relay what they want to say vocally, just remember that there are other forms of communication. Writing is one. Don't conceal your voice✨
