I Stare At The Woman In Front Of Me

I stare at the person in front of me.

A woman.

She has dark eyes that turn brown when hit by a ray of sunlight.

She has a default small smirk on her lips as if she knows everyone’s secrets, even mine.

And maybe she actually does.

She opens her mouth and tells me stories.

Stories of her life. Stories of the people most important to her.

She tells me stories of her childhood and how she got the scar on her right arm due to a clumsiness and childhood curiosity.

She shows me her battle scars and her victories accompanied by a winning smile.

“Chin up and never let them look down at you,” she says.

She tells me all about her dreams which I suddenly have a strong urge to join her in.

She tells me she is slowly, but surely, taking leaps of faith to achieving a life she will not regret once her time is up.

With affection and love in her eyes, she tells me stories about her partner and how she is lucky to have found someone who pushes her in the right direction.

She tells me her vision for the world and how she wants to change the hearts and mindsets of people, even if it’s a long shot.

And all I do is listen, nod, and imagine all those things with her.

She is this powerful force that convinces people to follow their dreams and pursue their aspirations.

Maybe it’s in the way she talks—confident yet soft.

Or the way she looks at me straight in the eyes yet diverts at perfect times to avoid making me feel uncomfortable.

Or maybe it’s the way she shares her goals as if she actually wants me to be a part of.

“And I do.” she says, “This is your dream, too.”

It’s both empowering, terrifying, exciting, and overwhelming all at the same time.

It’s a mix of emotions that I would not mind feeling again because I know I am about to embark on the road to doing things that will change lives for the better.

I smile, she smiles back.

My sister asks why I’m smiling at the mirror again.

Finished it with a smile on my face. This could be the most motivational writing that I’ve read. Just beautiful.
